Stay Alert at the pool PDF Print E-mail

keep_watch.jpgDid you know?

Lack of direct supervision by parent or carer while your child is in the water has been the main factor in 70% of the drownings at public swimming pools.

Please remember:

Do not leave your child at the pool unattended.

While at the pool you are responsible for your child, lifeguards do a great job of keeping our pools safe but they are not babysitters!

A child's swimming ability does not indicate that they are "drown proof".  Regardless of the fact that your child may be older or more capable in the water, they are still at risk of drowning.

POOL RULES:

  • Children under 12 years ARE NOT allowed entry into the pool unless under active supervision of a person 18 years or older
  • For children aged 0 - 5 years old a parent or guardian MUST be in the water at all times or within arms reach of the child
  • For 6 - 10 years old a parent should be close enough to make eye contact and be constantly watching the child
  • For 11 -14 years old a parent must regularly check on their child by physically going to the point where they are in or around the water

Give your child ALL your attention, stay CLOSE to them and watch them CONTINUOUSLY!
